Compressing Files for Catalyst using Final Cut Pro

The following information is step by step instructions on how to take video files and convert them to the Catalyst savvy format using Final Cut Pro Export Queue Function.

Launch Final Cut Pro V4

*Select export queue from the windows menu
*Drag the movie that needs converting into the export queue window
*With Batch 1 hi-lighted select the settings button at the bottom of the export queue window
*A window will open with the default Batch 1 at the top. Choose a destination for the newly converted movie file or files.
*Below the destination button is the Format pull down button. Select "QuickTime (Custom)"
*Next is the settings pull down button. Leave that at default settings. (this setting is used for internet streaming which Catalyst does not use)
*Next is the options button. In the audio section uncheck the sound and internet streaming settings.
*At the top of the movie settings window select settings. The compression window now opens
*At the top of this window there is a pull down button. find "Photo JPEG"- NTSC (if you are in the US and PAL if you prefer that format.
*Make sure the quality setting bar is set to Medium. do not adjust anything in the motion section at the bottom of the movie settings window
*Click OK to close the Compression settings window
*Click OK to close the Movie Settings window
*Click OK to close the settings window
*The Export Queue should now be in view. Press export. this will start the export batch process.

In this example we exported only one movie but if you drag several movies at one into the export queue window then all of these will be in the batch. you can export several Batches at once. each batch will need the settings set and each batch can be different. All items in the batch folder will have the same settings.

This could take a while so go have a coffee/ tea break
